The Helping Hitch Fund all came about because of a very special little puppy named Hitch!Hitch was turned in to a kill shelter with his litter, just a typical litter of Labrador mixed breed puppies. There was nothing typical about Hitch! He had a birth defect in one of his front legs which caused it to be small, misshapen, and weak. Because he couldn't fight the rest of the litter for as much milk or food, he was just a bit smaller then his littermates. What Hitch lacked in size and limbs he made up for in spirit and heart! When he was turned in with his litter, he was scheduled to go straight to euthanasia, not even to be given a chance to be adopted.
They thought what chance would he have had against all the pups not just in his litter, but against all the rest of the puppies already looking for homes in the shelter? However, ACRA's contact person there Sarah, who has a heart of gold and a huge spirit herself, saw how wonderful this special puppy was! She contacted us immediately and told us about this sweet natured and loving little pup, we knew we couldn't turn him away! He arrived in November and went into foster with Deb. Hitch quickly won the hearts of Deb's family and her family pets, just as if he'd always been there! Everyone who met Hitch fell in love with him, and all who meet him are touched by the sweet pup with the strong spirit and loving heart! ACRA began to fundraise for Hitch's surgery, and also to find a Veterinarian who would do Hitch's surgery for a discount as he is a rescued puppy. We found Dr. Stein through a recommendation, who is with the Animal Pain Management Center in Amherst. When Dr. Stein met Hitch, Hitch crawled up into his lap and won his heart over too, and the hearts of the staff there! What was not to love?!
Once we saw how amazing this little puppy was, and how close he was to being euthanized due to a simple to fix health issue, ACRA decided to change the Helping Hitch Fund from just a fund to raise money for Hitch's surgery, to a fund to stay in Hitch's name forever and be there to help any rescued dog or puppy like Hitch in the future that has a simple health issue that would have caused them to be euthanized. We at ACRA want to have the funds available for more pups or dogs like Hitch, and be able to help them too.
Hitch has since been adopted by a Vet Tech who works for Dr. Stein! He comes to work with him all the time and has sort of turned into the "office puppy!" We at ACRA are so eternally grateful to Dr. Stein, the other Veterinarians, and the staff at the Animal Pain Management Center and the Amherst Small Animal Hospital! Thanks to them Hitch will always have veterinary care, love, and a forever home! They have also been involved in helping other rescued pups to be adopted since ACRA has been involved with them!
All donations to the Helping Hitch Fund goes directly towards helping Hitch and to save other pups and dogs with simple health issues facing euthanasia for those issues. Thank you in advance for giving from your heart to the Helping Hitch Fund….for Hitch and all future puppies and dogs that the fund will help to save!
